Primary duties have included the following:
- Landscape Architecture and Planning which involved design and graphics for a variety of public civil works and ecosystem restoration projects. Projects have included flood risk reduction, recreational design and planning, urban design and streetscape improvement planning, and illustration and presentation graphics for public meetings.  Projects have been typically done completely in house and have required preparation of  design implementation from the conceptual level all the way through construction documents and specifications.  Conceptual level design required intense graphics and presentation materials that gave a clear picture of how a given project would look upon completion.  This was very important in presenting to a public still in transition from the affects of Hurricane Katrina.  Communicating in writing, verbal and graphically has been essential to job function and mission completion.

- Graphic Design and Illustration which required the use of a variety of different techniques and programs to accomplish the mission.  Techniques involved the use of good old fashioned hand drawing and rendering on paper, and rendering in computer based drawing programs and environments.  Computer based drawing included actual drawing and rendering in a computer based program utilizing a tablet, or preparing three dimensional environments in CAD based programs for print and animation purposes.  Typically the output presentation graphics were transformed into large and small format print media and publications, and on screen graphics for public and in-house meetings.  Communicating in writing, verbal and graphically has been essential to job function and mission completion.

- Visual Resources Management for the NEPA Process.  This duty included preparation of a variety of environmental assessments (EA's) and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS's), for both the New Orleans District and other districts across the Mississippi Valley Division.  These projects have involved coastal restoration; marsh, wetland and ecosystem restoration; review of plans and specifications for construction of flood and storm protection, navigational, and recreation based projects; and other, more technical building projects for pump station placements, canal dredging, and borrow and stockpile sites.  Communicating in writing, verbal and graphically has been essential to job function and mission completion.

- GIS mapping, a recent addition to duties and responsibilities, has become an intense endeavor.  Projects have required the need to prepare right of entry maps, topographic maps, site analysis maps for environmental, ecological, natural and cultural resources, and other specific project area maps.
- Other projects have included urban tree planting and reforestation, and riverbank revetment projects, in rural areas, utilizing native plant materials.

- The duties described above have been carried out utilizing the latest versions of the following programs:  ArcGIS, Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk 3D Studio Max, Autodesk Maya, Autodesk Sketchbook, Adobe Creative Suite 5, Bryce, Manga Studio, and Sketch-Up Pro.

It should be noted that while performing in this position, numerous awards have been received including the Commanders Coin for excellence for work performed for the Hurricane Storm Damage Risk Reduction System in the greater New Orleans Metro area, and other awards for the Louisiana Coastal Authority (LCA) coastal restoration and preservation projects that are continuing to be developed along the coast of Southeast Louisiana.


City of Vicksburg, Mississippi
Vicksburg, MS

Position:  Community/ City Planner

Primary duties included the following:
- Primary focus was the maintenance of the City's Comprehensive Master Plan.  This plan included land use planning, historic preservation planning, urban design standards, demography, major thoroughfares planning, capital improvements planning, and goals and objectives for the future.

- Preparation of presentation materials and graphics for city sponsored public meetings, marketing and advertising for the city including public events and projects, and partnerships with other communities and state agencies.  Communicating in writing, verbal and graphically was essential to job function and the completion of projects.

- Maintenance of the City's existing zoning ordinance, land use regulations, comprehensive plan, and GIS system.

- Other projects and responsibilities involved a variety of mapping and cartography, regional planning, urban design, flood damage reduction planning, site plan review, and enforcement of city codes. 

- Beginning in 2007, as the City's interim City Planner, primary focus was shifted into planning for housing and major civil works projects. These projects were primarily focused on rehabilitation of old infrastructure (streets and thoroughfares), sale and marketing of City owned properties for housing, and recommendations on flood damage reduction in key areas of the City as they pertained to housing.


McCaffrey Design
Vicksburg, MS

Position:  Owner/ Chief Designer and Planner
Dates Employed:  2004 to 10/2008

Primary duties included the following:
- Graphic design, illustration and presentation materials for several private companies and individuals in the Vicksburg area.  This work was typically associated with landscape design and land planning work and required renderings that were to be used for advertising and marketing purposes.

- Planning and landscape design for several local businesses and entities in the Vicksburg area, including the Vicksburg Factory Outlets, Silver Creek Equestrian Club and Ameristar Casino. 

- Performed consultation work with Barber and Mann Planning and Landscape Architecture, in Ridgeland, Mississippi.  Projects included subdivision planning and design, town center planning and design and graphic design/ illustration.  Projects associated with Barber and Mann involved recommendations for conservation easements, stormwater retention and detention facilities, a balance between the urban and natural environment, and influence on infill development.

- Primary duties included the preparation of conceptual design, presentation graphics and media, and construction documentation for several large parks and green space projects, campus planning and design, ecosystem restoration and conservation projects, public works and street improvements for the Midtown District, the Upper Kirby District, the Westchase District, the City of Woodlands, and the City of Houston.

- The illustrations were utilized as visual aids and displays for the subject book.
